Berend Turf & Tractor LP was established in July of 2005 after being a part of Berend Bros. Farm & Garden Centers for over 65 years. A change in the Berend Bros. family ownership created an opportunity for Jay Berend to purchase the power equipment business.  Jay continues to grow Berend Turf & Tractor using the values passed on from his grandfather, Lawrence Berend, and father, Larry Berend.  In 2010 Jay was joined in the family business by his younger brother, Lee, and in January of 2011 Jay and Lee became business partners.

Jay Berend – Co-Owner
Jay is a 1996 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture Economics.   After he graduated, Jay worked for Wright Brand Foods in Vernon, Texas for three years.  Jay joined Berend Bros. in 1999 as store manager of the Seymour Highway location and in 2001 was made sales manager of three Berend Bros. locations. He is married to Susan and they have two boys.  They attend First Presbyterian Church and Jay enjoys hunting, coaching soccer, and attending his sons’ activities.

Lee Berend – Co-Owner
Lee graduated from Texas A&M University in 2002 with a Bachelors of Science in Poultry Science.  After graduation, he went to work for Sanderson Farms in Bryan, Texas for eight years.  Lee joined Berend Turf & Tractor in January 2010 and became co-owner in January 2011.  He is married to Beth and they have a daughter and son.  They attend Grace Church and in his free time Lee likes to hunt and spend time with his family.

Larry Berend – Jack of All Trades
Larry is a 1969 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science in Poultry Science. He spent 33 years with Berend Bros., the last 25 in management including time as President. Larry is married to Peggy, and along with Jay and Lee they have another son, Will, as well as 6 grandchildren.  They are members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Larry is involved with Rotary Club North and is also on of the Board of Directors of State National Bank and North Central Texas Bancshares.

Bob Schmidt – Parts and Service Manager
Bob is a 1970 graduate of Rider High School and six year veteran of the Navy.  After the Navy, Bob worked at Eckerd's Pharmacy where he was a manager for two years.  He then worked for Hornsby Heavy Hardware for 15 years, 12 of which as a purchasing agent.  In 1993, Bob began working with the Berend family.  Bob is married to Tricia and they have 4 grown children and 12 grandchildren.  In his spare time Bob enjoys drag racing and watching both the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
